I thought some people interested in CHIME would like to know of a very useful page on the website of a related new Arts & Humanities Research Council-funded project from the University of East Anglia, The Impact of Festivals. The post-doctoral researcher on The Impact of Festivals is Dr Emma Webster, who spent much of November acting as researcher-in-residence at the EFG London Jazz Festival, and contributed to the CHIME inception event there in November.
Dr Webster has produced a page of resources which includes links to (currently) around 15 recent reports and papers specifically about questions of impact, value, policy in relation to festivals, both music and multi-arts events. Some of these were commissioned by specific festivals and focus on them–such as Edinburgh Festivals, or Umbria and Glasgow Jazz Festivals. Others look across Europe, or a range of festival types. This page will be updated regularly as more materials are located. We think it is a very good facility for thinking about festivals in their wider contexts. Do peruse! You can find the Resources page here.
